Not sure if it’s time to repaint? Here are five tell-tale signs your flat is overdue.
- Peeling or bubbling paint: Moisture has got behind the paint. Common in London bathrooms and kitchens with poor ventilation. It won’t fix itself.
- Faded colours: Sunlight, especially in south-facing rooms, fades paint faster than you think. If your white walls look cream, time for a refresh.
- Cracks appearing: Hairline cracks along cornices and wall joints are normal in older London buildings but need filling before they widen.
- Stains and marks that won’t clean off: Matte paint especially holds onto marks. If scrubbing doesn’t help, a fresh coat with an eggshell finish will.
- It’s been more than 5 years: Most interior paint lasts 5–7 years in a lived-in home. High-traffic areas like hallways need it sooner.
